Why Drill Point Depth Matters

Every twist drill leaves a conical point at the bottom of the hole. Knowing the exact point depth is critical for blind hole programming — if you don't account for it, your hole will be shallow by the point length, or you'll crash into the bottom of the part.

Standard 118-degree point: depth = diameter x 0.3 — but 135-degree split-point carbide drills are shorter at 0.207 x diameter
For blind holes, add the point depth to your required full-diameter depth to get the programmed Z depth
Spot drills and center drills use different included angles (90 or 60 degrees) — always match the angle to the tool
